

Kari Bari's is a bakery founded by a passionate home baker who transformed her childhood nickname into a thriving business. Established in 2021, Kari Bari's began in the founder's kitchen, driven by a love for baking and a desire to uplift her family and church community through delicious treats. After honing her skills and gaining valuable experience, she transitioned from sharing her creations for free to selling custom cakes, brownies, and cookies at various locations around Chicago.
The Challenge
For 3 years, Kari Bari had built a loyal customer base and perfected her craft through a variety of custom bakes. But while the quality of her work spoke volumes, her DIY logo was beginning to hold her back. She was ready to scale and raise her prices, but her current branding didn’t reflect the passion, professionalism, or personal touch behind her business. What she needed was a brand that felt as polished, heartfelt, and memorable as the treats she’s known for.

The strategy behind Kari Bari’s rebrand was to honor what she’d already built, while elevating it into a brand that felt more intentional, authentic and professional. Leaning into psychological insights about her customers to create an identity that felt familiar yet more elevated! Starting with inspiration from the original colour palette, we developed an inviting brand full of personality, paired with custom visuals, designed to connect emotionally, reflect quality and leave a lasting impression.

The Creative Direction
During the brand strategy phase, we crafted two distinct moodboards, each shaped by psychological insights into Kari Bari's target audience, brand personality, values, and long-term goals.
The client was instantly drawn to a memorable, bold and bright yet personal direction, which became the foundation for the brand’s bold identity. This creative direction influenced everything from the typography to the colour palette, ensuring every visual decision was aligned with how the brand needed to look, feel, and perform in a competitive market.

Custom Mascot
With the creative direction chosen during brand development, it became clear that a custom mascot was essential to bring the brand’s personality to life. Inspired by the CEO herself, the mascot was designed to embody both her vibrant spirit and the heartfelt, homemade nature of the brand.
This character became a fun yet meaningful touchpoint, helping the brand feel more personal, memorable, and instantly recognisable across all platforms.
